Re: gunpla and other model kits!
Not too sure if this is alll correct, so correct me if I'm wrong:
Any model paint brand would stock a specific thinner for their paint range, from enamel to liquor based paints. Except for a few exceptions, most paint straight from the pots are too thick, so they would leave a thick coat and brush mark when painted straight onto a model with a brush, it is therefore more desirable to thin down the paint, and put multiple layers on to ensure even coverage.
In the case of some paint (mostly water based one in my case) the paint might not be willing to spread out and cover the surface evenly, or in the case of painting a light colour over a dark plastic surface, the plastic's colour might endlessly wanting to come through the paint layers. In these cases, it might be a good idea to buy a spraycan of primer of that paint brand you are using. primer are usually a light grey or white, and spraying a layer on the plastic will give a better surface for the paint to go on and therefore improve the result. (have to admit though, I am usually too lazy for primer unless the situation is so bad it's inevitable).

Re: gunpla and other model kits!
I'd just add that acrylic paints are water soluble, and as such dont need thinner. They do make thinners for acrylics, but they're not needed, you can make do with plain old water, preferably distilled. If it's not spreading well, it's probably because you have it too think and it's become a wash. That or the old 'Light color over dark' thing.
*shivers* Red over black. I STILL have nightmares about picking that as a model color.

Re: gunpla and other model kits!
that's a very nice colour choice, making the Enact much more professional looking, and some very smooth paint finish! Spray paint I resume?
An now, a 1.5 years old model I did, last of my Warhammer 40K units (currently on haitus)

Yup, 3 cans of cheap Lacquer spray *silver, surface gray and pearl white*. This is my first repaint of a model kit as well. Still need to pick up some masking tape and trying out more method when I can pick up another cheap model kit.v2gundam wrote:that's a very nice colour choice, making the Enact much more professional looking, and some very smooth paint finish! Nice paint job, love the worn out effect on that model.

Re: gunpla and other model kits!
Completed my Fairlion kit. Surprisingly easy to build and like most Kotobukiya kits, she came with lots of details.
Huge Chainsaw Blade, need to learn how to focus on the thin blade
Stop focusing on the Valk, stupid camera!
Did some touch up on the little head fin, still need to improve on my techniques.
