Post by halconfenix » Thu Mar 01, 2012 8:24 pm

hi there!

is there anyone who (still) play STO?

i played it a while back when there was only the demo version avaliable for free... but now that the game is now F2P i came back and started from scratch... as of this date i'm level 32 (Captain) and my handle ingame is halconfenix@halconfenix0.

feel free to add me to friends list in game or something! (but make sure to tell me who you are... or otherwise... :P )

I'm a lifetimer so I've got 4 maxed chars and 4 others in various states of level.

That being said, I'm not a fan of how PWE does business, and left their game to come to STO only to have them follow me. I play SWTOR now mainly, and pop into STO when there's something there that interests me. So pretty much none of January and just on weekends in February for the new Featured Episodes.

well i guess i "think" i know how you feel (trust me when i say that, despite being a way simpler game than STO, the way need for speed world online is being used by EA to get money is... well... i'm still playing it though)

and i guess at this point it cant be helped for you since you're already a lifetimer, but for what i can tell there's still SO MUCH stuff to do on sto... at least you should play it more often and still not waste a penny anymore on it... that's just my humble and uninportant opinion though...

See, after going through 11 months no new content, I've already done everything in the game to the point that it's not fun anymore, so only pop in for the new stuff they are finally starting to release again. There might seem to be a lot of stuff to do for someone just starting out, but for those of us that have been around just over 2 years now... there's only so many times you can play the same stuff over and over and over and over. lol

The DOff system was fun at first, but I got over the novelty in the couple months of testing prior to F2P launch, so now it's just Q events and Episodes that bring me to log in.

Did you manage to snag the free Enterprise-F ship?

the freebie Odyssey class? yup! although for obvious reasons i cant use it yet... not that it matters in the long time since i'm aiming for the galaxy retrofit.

say... have you tried making foundry stuff? because i have played some of it and so far its fun! (and sometimes too long) and i'm kinda interested in trying to create one or two foundry project myself... but since i'm a free player i cant... yet....

The editor isn't all that great and the toolset hasn't been updated since it was added. However they've been doing a ton of work on it for Neverwinter and claim to be bringing it over into STO this June/July so we'll see. After all the broken promises I'll believe it when I see it though.

I do hang out with a bunch of authors though, and here's a nice list of some good foundry missions

anything by the following authors:
Alimac30
Havraha ("Rema Donna" is a sequel to the Cryptic mission "That Which Divides", and the Helna missions are funny, she will show up in some other foundry missions as well so I recommend learning about the character here first)
kirkfat
XR-377 (A Will and a Barclay is hilarious and feels very TNG though the big joke is that Barclay's daughter is responsible for the fact that we went through 8 months of having duplicates of our Bridge Officers running around our bridges until Cryptic finally got around to fixing it)
RogueEnterprises
DukeOfRock
CaptPFDennis
OldLordSkull
cerberusfilms
castmodean
Bazag
Tiuz
Soridem
Nagorak

I also liked the following two series. I don't remember the authors name for the second one though.
The Dissent series by Drogyn1701
Resting Raptors, Caged Raptors, Raptors Ascent

http://starbaseugc.com is pretty much the best Foundry resource out there.

the advantages of having a franken-pc :D :P

i'm kinda surprised you ships aren't named after shinkis...

will check those foundry authors when i have the time, starting with the one with Barclay's... i already knew about that one but never tried it due to having recently started playing... ;)
