Much like Ach's "ACH111es," Yda has "YDA-010" written on her left wheel/claw. As such, the name derivation is pretty clear.

Idaten is one of many gods originally taken from Hindu mythology, which explains the naming scheme of her weapons.

This isn't to say that the goddess Ida wasn't also taken into account, but Idaten is the primary derivation of her name.
ok.... http://www.onmarkproductions.com/html/k ... tml#idaten

that's the best match for yda then XD

Idaten IS a pretty pat answer. My problem with it is that with all the sanskrit names they gave her equipment, Idaten's the Japanese name of a mostly Chinese Buddhist deity (Skanda). Possibly they mixed up some names, as there's a different Skanda too? That or I'm looking way to deeply into this.

Idaten's connected through a long chain of whatevers to Hindu gods, it's rather complicated and I'm too lazy to type it all out right now. >_>;;

But he was known to use vajras as his primary weapon, so that's a direct reference there.

found this on dictionary.com

Juvia

Ju"vi*a\, n. (Bot.) A Brazilian name for the lofty myrtaceous tree (Bertholetia excelsa) which produces the large seeds known as Brazil nuts.

so i guess juvisy is nuts then ;)
Large seeds, huh? She is MMS Type Seed, so that may not be very far off.

Melinda - could also come from "merenda" (portuguese/brazilian/spanish)- which means lunch . Yum.

"Merenda" may be what we're looking at, since Kohiru means 'snack'.

I came across this in a google search of "Renge".

renge
[蓮華] ( Jpn; Chin lien-hua)
Lotus or lotus flower. Also called the Oriental lotus, Indian lotus, East Indian lotus or sacred lotus. An aquatic plant with flowers of white, pink, and other colors, often mentioned in Indian Buddhist scriptures and their Chinese translations.

In his Chinese translation, Kumara-jiva rendered the Sanskrit title as the Lotus Sutra of the Wonderful Law, or Myoho-renge-kyo in Japanese. Here pundarika is translated as lotus, or renge. Renge simply means lotus flower, without reference to the color or variety.
