Resin molds, custom masks, custom clothing, etc.

Post by p0etiq » Mon Feb 18, 2013 11:22 am

Hey guys,

At this point, I have become obsessed with my Shinkis, to the point in which I have been collecting additional Shinkis; and selling others.

Recently I was able to pull my Fubuki Type 2 out of storage, only to be reminded of her leg issue. Long story short, I ended up buying a brand new one, leaving me with additional weapons, body parts, accessories, etc.

That said, I wanted advice on making/acquiring a mask for my Fubuki Type 2. I have three heads (from my old Type 2) that I can work on, but I was wondering if I was better trying to use resin to make a "ninja face mask", or if I should invest in cloth to make a "shinobi scarf"-- either way, I want to have something that would cover the bottom portion of her face, giving her a more stealthy and assassin-style vibe. Any suggestions?

On a separate note, my Oorbellen. Garnet has a huge gap between her hair molds, more than I'd like to see anyway, so I was wondering if anyone has experience with resin molds. My regular Oorbellen has better streamlined hair pieces, so I would like to make a mold of hers, and reprint them for my Garnet. To be honest, I might just opt for either black or white hair... the pink is nice, but I'd much prefer pearl white to go along with her red and black armor. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

I just copy hair from Figma Leon and Altaines's Face and hair for my friend.

Mask and Hair can copy with resin but scarf I have seen many style and material

The easiest and cheapest way to make scarf is fold thick tissue paper and spray color on it. This is not last long, but you can made it again and again.

Others material is
1. Silicone (not great detail, but soft flexible not easy break. Look like figma material )

2. Epoxy (If you have sculpt skill, you can make what you want and then copy with resin or silicone)

3. Resin(If you have original piece, such as epoxy or revoltech Getter Robo Scarf, you can copy. This type is very good detail, but you must aware that thin resin is easily break )

4. Real Clothes (If you have sewing skill, you can sew it. you can spray on clothes to make it look hard like tissue technique, and you can sew wire in clothes to fold like what you want)

if you don't have resin casting skill before, you should see this 8 part

Here is how I design silicone mold for resin.

Here is how I design silicone mold for resin.

the plastic stick is the way for resin to move through. Distance between part and edge of silicone mold should be more than 2-3 cm, this will decrease air bubble problem.

if you hair have many detail, you need to make way to let the air and resin pass through. The more detail you want, the more branch of resin pass way you need

Long hair need to make seperate mold for back and front hair, or you will have problem when cast resin. (the front hair will full but back hair will be short of)

Dude, thanks a bunch for the info!

I haven't tested my sculpt ability yet, but that one scarf on the Tenpesta, and the one Gabrine, is what I was hoping for.
