Selling Shinki Clothing Question
Hi everyone!
A good friend and myself love to sew. We love shinkis. So we make our own little clothes for them, and know a lot of other people are interested in shinki clothing as well! So we're thinking of making an etsy shop to sell shinki clothing. We want to make it affordable, cute and well put together. We can do cute and sturdy, but the affordable part is a big question mark to us.
We're thinking about 8-15 CAD for a complete outfit, less elaborate things costing less. A complete outfit would consist of underwear (socks, panties, bra) & overclothes (shirt & pants/skirt or dress). Maybe shoes too if we can find some doll shoes to buy that work. We were also thinking about taking commissions IE we design and make unique clothes specifically for one person, which we think would run around 13-18 CAD.
So our question to everyone: what is "affordable" for an outfit? Is our proposed price too high, or too low, or ok? We want to cover the cost of fabric etc as well as make a small profit (to buy more shinkis and materials with ofc). Then there's the labor to factor in-- it isn't easy to sew so small, and we handsew a lot of things rather than use a machine (certain details are very very difficult to use a machine for).
Thanks for reading, and any time taken to reply/consider this!

Re: Selling Shinki Clothing Question
I don't know how much your outfits would be in USD, but... your prices sound relatively reasonable. I wouldn't mind commissioning/buying from you and your friend once you guys open up an etsy shop.

Re: Selling Shinki Clothing Question
I'll give you 50$ if you can make an exact replica of
Minus the Swastikas
If you do a real good job with it, I'll literally buy 9 more off you
I have other ideas which revolve around the same WW2 German Aesthetic
you should charge abit more tbh
[edit]
also as for cute, I work for a Japanese fashion import group sometimes when needed
can you guys replicate certain things in the magazines for me?

Re: Selling Shinki Clothing Question
Thanks for the replies, you guys! It's good to know there is some interest. I'll update the initial post with stuff if me and my friend end up doing it. Please continue to give me feedback on prices and the like, everyone!
@mikuo_hatsune: Wow, I'd love to try my hand at making something like that. I'm very interested in the military look as well so please PM me and we can talk...! I'd loooove to make cute little items from fashion magazines as well, replicating the look would be very fun and challenging for us.

Given the prices listed, I may also be interested in a few pieces of clothing, depending on my finances.

Re: Selling Shinki Clothing Question
What is CAD in US Dollars?
The most I usually tend to be able to afford is around 8-15$ per article, depending on the complexity
I'm actually looking to get more clothing for my Shinki and my other supplier has gotten kind of overbooked on her workload I think.

Re: Selling Shinki Clothing Question
The US Dollar to Canadian Dollar exchange rate is as close to 1:1 as to not make a huge difference.
Checking in google, it looks like the current, exact rate is $1 Canadian = $.98 US
