Oh no! Poor Mao!
At least she can retreat to her furniture fort!

don't worry! mao didn't actually get punched, it was film fighting. And even if she had, she's so relentlessly cute and happy that she'd probably just shrug it off and continue playing :schmetterling:

i'm hoping to get my hands on a dengeki mao pretty soon here and use the head to up mao's cuteness levels even more!

so Strarf's revolvers came in today and i am quite pleased with them. they have a fantastic amount of detail for their scale and the spinning cylinder works beautifully! they are pretty sturdy with the exception of the hammer which will break if you push on it to hard. that was to be expected though. strarf is even more happy with them than i am :strarf: a few tweaks and they'll be perfect, just need to modify the grip, and thicken up the hammer a bit and they'll be up for sale for around $8 for a set of four.

in other news, my package from mandarake arrived today...15 minutes after i left for oregon for the weekend. poor little vitulus is going to have to sit in her box for few more days before i can get home and pick her up. :vitulus: also in my box of goodies is a dengeki hobby maochao, i'll be using her head as an alternate face for my standard mao since i love the cutie face the dengeki mao has but don't like the colorscheme of her body. i may use her body as a base in an attempt to 3d model a shinki body... we'll see.
more pics for these two on sunday.

the revolvers with a little sharpie & gundam marker:
(unfortunately, the one on the right is how i found out that the hammer is too weak...)

the hands with pointing but slightly curved index finger is ideal for the revolver, and fits perfectly and securely!

i gotta say, the semi-poseable hair really helps give the poses a little extra realism.

Thanks for looking.

The texture on the revolvers looks a bit odd in closeup, but the overall effect is very nice.

yeah, that's just from the printing process, a little buffing will take that off, but it's so tiny that buffing is tough. in-hand it's not nearly as noticable as it is in that pic. the model should be finished in a couple days.

so sadly not a lot of extra time this past week, but i might be able to finish up the last few features on the revolver model this weekend, then i'll open them up for sale if anyone's interested.
while we're on the subject, i painted the second pair of revolvers... well when i say "painted" i mean "used an excessive amount of sharpie"

Image
i was planning on doing some pink detailing (to go with vitulus) but the silver sharpie never really dries properly, so oh well...

and now for an update and some pictures!

i finally have time now to post the pics i've been taking here and there of my new arrivals, doubling my total shinki count. i've now got four shinkis, although i'm still not entirely sure what i'm going to do with my dengeki mao body. i'm not a fan of the colorscheme, but i can't bring myself to stash her body back in her box and use it for spares when needed. for now she's just gonna be the convenient holder for mao's extra head and live with the rest of the girls on my desk. however, i am very pleased with the cutesy face the dengeki mao comes with, now mao can have the expression i've always imagined she'd have! :nanner:

she's getting a little impatient with me...

on to vitulus. when i saw her first on tfw i wasn't very taken with her, but now... for some inexplicable reason i really like her, strarf's still my favorite, but i'm quite happy with my vits. she is also, as of right now, my bustiest shinki... when she's got her risque chest on that is. which is very likely to become her standard configuration for me, the colors of the smaller chest piece just look odd to me and... i mean...
her larger chest is just better ok? sue me :P  strarf is also happy with vitulus because now she has someone to share her love of weapons with! :strarf: they had some fun with the revolvers i made for them as well, fortunately things didn't get too out of hand.

Image
Vits is a bit nervous about meeting the other girls...

Image
but there was nothing to worry about :schmetterling:

Those revolvers look great! It's really impressive that these days you can create a 3D model, send it to a company, and they can literally print out your model. I love technology these days!

I'm curious though, how hard it is to work in CAD? I've never done any sort of 3D modeling before, however I'm pretty well versed in paint programs such as Photoshop. Is there a really steep learning curve with 3D modeling?

thanks! 3d printing is awesome.

as for CAD i'm a very spacial thinker, so it's very easy for me, but for those who are not spacial thinkers it presents a very big challenge. Also, unlike photoshop where it's all about kinda making it up as you go, in CAD there are conventions to follow and requirements to meet before a model is actually useful for anything. there is a lot of knowledge required to be a successful modeler, but it doesn't really take a lot of effort to learn them if you enjoy modeling like i do. if you're interested, i also started a thread in toy discussion for these guns specifically and i've posted a few things about CAD there as well.

i hope that sheds some light on 3D modeling for you.

also, if you're thinking of trying to get into 3D modeling i'll warn you now, i don't know of any free software that comes anywhere close to the capabilities of the professional grade software i use, and the pro software isn't cheap by any means. the only reason i have it is because i can get a free student version through my university.

Ah, I've wanted a second Dengeki Mao on an original Mao body for a while! But I can just live vicariously through your photos of your Mao. She's perfect!

Congrats on Vitulus as well! She seems to be a somewhat underrated shinki but she always looks amazing in photos I've seen.
Your guns look awesome too!
