Follow the aqua highlighted buttons the first time you start the game. They'll show you how to put together your first shinki. There is also a guide on gameFAQs for the game. It's outdated, but it's really helped me a lot in getting started.

As Sonja said, here's that guide on Gamefaqs. Otherwise, we have a couple of guides for specific stuff in this forum.

Anyway, you should be able to get started just by trying some things out.
