Howling & Maochao

Postby Shadow9808 » Fri Jan 14, 2011 2:14 pm

I do belive this might be my very first post here in the world of Busou Shinki, so I'll just say hello and move along.

Hi, I'm Shadow9808, a newb to Battle Rondo. I've downloaded the game today, and it's mechanics will take some getting used to since I can't read a lick of all the kanji flying around.

That said, I hope to buy Howling and Maochao in the future, both as they are my favorite Shinki and I like BLADE's design for them. I can't say for sure when I'll get them, but I'd still like to know some general advice to properly get them off the ground running for S Class. CSC core combos that are best advised, what ideal stats they should have, etc.

Seeing as I'm a begginer in a very welcoming place to learn, I supose one of my most straight forward questions is about how Howling and Maochao work in Battle Rondo based on equipment and skill videos. That said, is it safe to say that Maochao, outside her Option, is a purely melee range Shinki, doing her best damage up close with her drills and knuckles?

On the same note, though Howling has her spiked rings and BFG (What's not to love about cute girls with BFGs? Okay, if they are yanderes or yangires...) as well as the same option system as Maochao, does she have a much wider fighting range than the sugar high cat? Or does she also do her best beating the tar out of her targets up close? If I think of any other questions, I'll be certain to ask them as well.
"Man, I'm torn between my two loves; My love of cute fuzzy things, and my love of killing! ... Okay, let's grease 'em."

Howling's all range, one of her most powerful skills is actually a melee attack.

Well, thanks to my girlfriend, I now officialy nd proudly own Howling, both the figure and in Battle Rondo! Now that I'm aware she's got skills at all ranges, and her most deadly is in melee, what CSCs are best recomended? Training with my Fubuki has given me a Garnet and Bloodstone, but I also have some fresh gems; a Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald and as of now, 2 Topaz. What works best in combo for her?

She is NOT most deadly in melee, she is most deadly in melee AND long range from my experience.

I actually want to pose a question here, I also only have a Maochao and Howling (and Fubuki of course) on BR, any build suggestions? I want to activate my Maochao, but I want to be sure I have a good CSC setup for her, what would be reccomended for her? I'm going to wait to activate Howling until I have tri-moonstones, because the weapons she gets by reaching Rank S are AWESOME.

To be honest, these type of question has became even harder to answer nowadays... (The following would be my personal point of view, which differs from person to person.)

...First of all, I have to say, with only Howling's and/or Maochao's equipments, against the new girls and the new equipments alone -- you need good luck on CSC bonus, even against those ones with just the basic three CSC and so-so bonus.

The good thing is, both complete equipments for Howling and Maochao are leaning towards mixture of attack + skill build (especially Maochao's), with a hint of defense. And their base values are quite easy to adopt into different builds.

Here some challenges, or road blocks, I think you will meet in your way of getting to rank S:

1) High mobility long range build : It's one of my favorite build (hint hint: tri cat eyes), and it comes with many variations (launcher, sniper rifle, object, magic wand, with or without skills, etc, etc). The overall idea is to outrun your Shinki, stay in long range, and just shoot you down.
2) High attack/accuracy build : Recently, a fair number of these builds has pop-up (thanks to the new girls + equipments), and some will kill your Shinki in as little as three (3) turns. They pretty much owns any none-epic dodge type. And more often or not comes with a set for anti-defense.
3) High dodge or High defense build : These are less concerning, but they do pose a common problem -- the battle is basically comparing two Shinki's CSC bonus + equipment. Player with more equipments can try to make up their Shinki's lack of CSC bonus easily. (Though, an epic CSC bonus roll is EPIC.)

Here are some of my thoughts:

A) Pick the time well, and avoid the time when sharks lurks.
B) When entering a battle, take a look at your opponent Shinki's battle history record -- if you notice that particular Shinki has more than 5 battles today already (and if she knocks yours silly with ease), take a long break.

There are many (hint hint: ttass...) bloody sharks whose Shinkis all have just one set called "put this on and wins most of the generic builds". Well, a winning formula is there for a reason, but sometimes it can be really annoying when you are at the receiving end.
C) If you notice someone with "joke" set... Take those battles! They are meant to be taken!! Take them until you cannot take any more!!! (Those are usually training for LP/SP, or just waiting for reset -- while waiting for reset type is hard to encounter outside EX rank, there are still some around.)

...Hope this helps, and good luck with your battles to rank S!

Actually, Howling's launcher seems to be great against these types. It's long range, has a powerful attack and a murderous special. The problem is mid-range campers. Anyways, what's a good csc build for Maochao? And how do I tell what my CSC bonus is?

With Howling's launcher, you need to be careful with its long pre-attack (200) and small attack range (220-350). As long as the stage and opponent Shinki's weapon of choice allows (plus/minus range sense and attack/accuracy), it is a really lethal weapon. Here is two replays that show cases it:

http://ihpsk.net/BusouShinkiBR/Replay/S ... 30_000.brr
http://ihpsk.net/BusouShinkiBR/Replay/S ... 30_001.brr

===== ===== ===== ===== =====

As corny as it sounds, CSC bonus is something you "know" as your Shinki battles.

Also, once you have a "default" Shinki, comparison method (by doing "my Shinki battle") is also a good method to tell.

===== ===== ===== ===== =====

If you like to gamble (and/or don't mind to go through tons of reset/restore+reactor in case), tri-Moon Stones or tri-Cat Eyes would be really interesting.

...On the other hand, it can be really time consuming and annoying sometimes. (The highest of restore+reactor count for me, currently held by my flower type, is 8.)
