Scarlet Weather Rhapsody - Characters

Hello, it's Chip again~

For those who want a quick introduction to the characters in Scarlet Weather Rhapsody, I've put together a short guide that gives suggestions on how to play them.

Characters can be used in multiple ways; I've given a few suggestions for each character. They also aren't limiting; Remilia can be very dangerous from far away, even though she's marked as "good with melee". Aya might be labeled "Fast", but that doesn't stop you from sitting back and turtling, waiting for an opening to strike. I might not call Marisa a "melee expert", but she can certainly be dangerous with it!!

I've included some replays, to show you how the characters can be played. They're all computer matches versus Lunatic-level AI. They aren't necessarily hot, but it'll give you an idea where to start.

Without further adieu, I present...

A Character Summary.

-----

Reimu Hakurei (Bullet Spam, Melee, Instant Range)

5C is very useful for clearing enemy bullets and scoring decent damage.
241B is good for surprise damage from almost anywhere; but don't spam it!!
Reimu can be played well close up or far away; use a little of both to keep your opponent guessing.

-----

Marisa Kirisame (Slow, Instant Range)

With Marisa, you can distract your opponent with almost-dangerous attacks like 5C and 6C.
When they least expect it, wipe out half their health with a 5-cost Spellcard (like Dragon Meteor).
Hit confirms are helpful. (Wait until a 5A hits your opponent, then immediately use a Spellcard for a guaranteed follow-up.)

-----

Patchouli Knowledge (Bullet Spam, Instant Range)

With Patchu, you'll want to shoot lots and stay far. Try to chain attacks often (like B, C, 236C in one volley).
If you hover in the air right above your opponent, you can drop 5C's from behind them; they won't know which direction to block.
4B will drop a wall of bullets near you, which can block some enemy bullets.
When you score a knock-down, cast a 22B before they get up; it'll be placed perfectly under them.

-----

Sakuya Izayoi (Targeted Attacks, Melee)

Sakuya does well in the air. Drop 5C's while flying (they bounce off walls), then dash behind your opponent for an easy mix-up!
Also, while in the air, use well-aimed 5B's, 2B's, and 2C's to keep your opponent guessing.
When they start grazing your attacks, switch to melee (A-button attacks) and knock them down!!

-----

Remilia Scarlet (Fast, Melee, Targeted Attacks)

Remi is meant to be played close to the opponent. Get in close and mash that A button!!
You also want to mix your strategies often and quickly. Don't be predictable.
236C is good for grazing through bullets and punishing your opponent, from medium range.
5B beats out most enemy projectiles; one of yours almost always gets through, hits the enemy, and clears the screen.
Also, Charged-5C is powerful from far away, especially if you spam it.

-----

Youmu Konpaku (Melee, Fast)

Always stay close to your opponent; you're most dangerous that way.
If they try to keep you away by using bullets, counter with 236B.
Always move with Dash. Never move without Dash. Let go of Dash only to attack.

-----

Yuyuko Saigyouji (Bullet Spam, Slow, Melee)

Spam charged 5C's when your opponent is turtling, or when they're down, or whenever.
It flies right through their projectiles, so all they can do is block (and face guard crush) or try and graze it all.
When they choose to graze, do 623C for an easy hit. Rinse and repeat.

-----

Aya Shameimaru (Fast, Targeted Attacks)

Learn the movement paths for her attacks well!
(For example, if you jump and use 2C, you'll dodge grounded opponents and hit back.)
With Aya, you want to attack rapidly and aim carefully.

-----

Komachi Onozuka (Melee, Slow, Instant Range)

Koko does best from close to mid range; the scythe hurts, and reaches far. (If you doubt, try Ground-Dash C.)
If you're far away, fire a 214C to make wisps; dash towards your opponent with the wisps leading.
You'll graze any bullet attacks. If your opponent tries melee, the wisps will hit them.

-----

Suika Ibuki (Targeted Attacks, Fast, Slow)

Be quick with your 6C's. They're fast, and can often hit the enemy while they try to attack.
Otherwise, I dunno about Suika. She plays well, but I wouldn't label her "strategic"...

Fighting Style Categories

These are very loose descriptions of how the characters can be played. Suggestions and comments would be really nice!!

Bullet Spam: Fill the screen with bullets, hoping that some will hit.
Targeted Attacks: Fire fewer bullets, but they can hit the enemy from almost anywhere.

Melee: The character is really good with A-button attacks, and is dangerous when close to you.
Instant Range: The character can hit you from across the stage, almost instantly.

Fast: The character performs many actions quickly, often distracting or finding holes in defense.
Slow: The character's attacks are large, infrequent, and predictable most of the time, but still somehow scary.

I've added some character-specific usage notes. I hope it helps!!

Also, sample replays for the characters are attached now. If players like the idea, I might add more replays with focused lessons (like how to land a Masterspark).

Perhaps we can build on these lists as we play longer, and share tips with each other. I certainly can't be an expert on every character!!
