The funny thing being, if you actually read the stories, he dresses nothing like the classic movie portrayal of the character. They tend to leave out the opium dens, too.

Exactly. Sherlock Holmes never wore a deerstalker, or Iverness cape for that matter, in Conan Doyle's stories. The costume that is typically associated with the character can be credited to stage productions and film adaptations. Director Guy Ritchie wanted his interpretation of Sherlock to look more aesthetically pleasing and period accurate to the Victorian era. He also allowed Mister Downey to personally choose the hat from James Lock & Co. because the actor is passionate about his headgear.

Sherlock's drug use is misinterpreted too though. Watson observes in The Sign of Four that Holmes abuses cocaine and morphine between cases to stave off boredom. There is only one other instance, A Scandal in Bohemia, where Holmes is actually described taking drugs. Otherwise it is only referenced historically or vaguely by Watson who later helped his friend kick the habit and stay clean. When he appears in an opium den, Holmes is working undercover on a case and by his own rule not using at the time. The detective's more notable bad habits were chain smoking, caffeinated beverages, forced starvation and over-exertion. Not so different from many hard working folks today. LOL

No, he did wear a hat in the stories which all men did in the Victorian era. It was unfashionable to go out without one. Just not the deerstalker type that many associate with Sherlock's image. I believe that started with stage actor William Gillette.

Yep, he did use cocaine. It wasn't an addiction by any means though. Drug use in that era was more recreational because people were experimenting. In literary terms, it was a means for Conan Doyle to make Holmes imperfect.

I believe the Avatar miniatures are 4 1/2" tall compared to the 6" tall Shinki's, Figma's and revoltech's. Hey, at least DA doesn't have those mechs. Yet.
